ICE – Man

March 2010

ICE are delighted to announce that Dr. George Tvalashvili has joined the company, becoming the latest ICE Man member of the team. George graduated from the Physics faculty of Tbilisi State University, before joining the Andronikashvili Institute of Physics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. From there George specialised in experimental research of quantum liquids and solids at low and ultra low temperatures, working at key establishments around the world.  Such as the Kapiza Institute of Physics in Russia, the Low Temperature Laboratory Helsinki University of Technology in Finland, the Bayreuth University in Germany and the Physics department of Lancaster University in the UK.

George moved from being a researcher to take up positions within the Cryogenic industry, mainly being involved with the introduction of new products. A skill that George will be utilising within his new role at ICE.

Sales manager Richard Pavier added “George brings a wealth of experience to the business, having an in depth knowledge of applications and a detailed understanding of how new products need to be developed to meet the requirements of the end users. Everyone at ICE is excited about the contribution that George can make to our business and the benefits he can bring to our customers”

ICE- Magneto

February 2010

ICE has successfully completed the on site installation of a DRY- Cryogen free top loading system with an integrated 7 Telsa superconducting magnet. The system is primarily being used for magneto-resistance measurements at low temperatures and in particular for magneto resistances across magnetic domain walls. Where local directions of magnetic domains can be influenced with a structure fabrication, as a result, multi-states of magneto resistance can be controlled as the external magnetic field amplitude increases or decreases.

To facilitate fast sample turn around times in a DRY- cryogen free environment a top loading probe is supplied fitted with a chip carrier, experimental wiring and a sample rotator that allows for full 360 degree rotation.

ICE - A helping hand

November 2009

ICEoxford® have completed the refurbishment of a dilution refrigerator system for the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.

The refurbishment included extensive repair of the original cryostat, rework of the dilution refrigerator, the supply of additional accessories and end user training to millikevin temperatures at ICE’s factory.

In a written testimonial the customer made the following comments:

ICEOxford® knowledge of cryogenic systems

In our experience, ICEoxford® has a superior knowledge of cryogenic systems due to the extensive experience of its staff in cryogenics. We believe that this knowledge was crucial in refurbishing our dilution refrigerator.

Communications

While providing the quotation for the refurbishment, ICEoxford® could clearly define, upon wish, the different phases of the refurbishment. Through every phase the company clearly communicated the status of the repair and addressed our questions.

Responsiveness

All inquiries were replied in a timely fashion.

Quality of workmanship

ICEoxford® was able to refurbish our dilution refrigerator and in the end the specifications of the original manufacturer could be even exceeded. While it remains to be seen how the system will work in the upcoming time, we believe that the work was carried out carefully and well, so that no problems should arise.

Value for money (i.e. cost)

Compared to the original manufacturer, the offer from ICEoxford® was very competitive.

Meeting customer expectations

In refurbishing the dilution refrigerator and exceeding the specifications of the original manufacturer, ICEoxford® fully met our expectations.

Remarks

The team was very friendly during the training session and I profited a lot from the insights!

New place, new faces and new product range

September 2009

ICEoxford® Limited a leading supplier of Low temperature Cryogenic equipment is pleased to announce a move to a new factory. From the end of September the company which supplies both wet (cryogen), re-condensing (cryogen contained) and dry (cryogen free) systems for the industrial and research markets is moving to a larger facility based in the town of Witney, just outside of Oxford.  Managing Director, Chris Busby commented “The additional space allows us to expand our own manufacturing and machining capabilities, maintain separate clean areas for wire and test, and further enhance our work flow efficiency.”  Chris also added, “As well as increasing space for main system orders, we will also have a dedicated area for CRYOBITZ, our cryogenic spares business, which has also seen strong growth over a number of years and requires additional room to service this trend”.

As well as re-locating, we have some new faces here at ICEoxford®. Richard Pavier joined us as the Sales Manager. Paul Kelly, Technical Director said “Although new to ICEoxford®, Richard has over 28 years experience in the cryogenic market place. He has held a number of senior positions in Technical Support, Customer Service and Sales. Richard has lived in the USA and Japan, developing an understanding of unique market requirements and tailored solutions. He brings additional diverse experience to our business and further strengthens our ability to be agile, innovative and customer focused.”

The newest member of our team is Ciara Kelly who’s key role is to support our marketing activities. Chris Busby, Managing Director commented. “Against a backdrop of world recession it is great to be in a position where we can employ new staff. This is an excellent career opportunity for Ciara and we warmly welcome her into the world of Cryogenics”

Along with the new facility and new faces we have introduced a new product range. ICEEL is a range of entry level products designed to support researchers who are looking for low cost solutions. The range includes entry level cryogen free (DRY), and entry level LHe4  and LN2 systems (WET) designed for various applications including Spectroscopy, Microscopy, Mössbauer, STM, Neutron Studies, Hall Studies, X-Ray diffraction and Ultra High Vacuum.  For example, the top loading ICE4k-EL delivers a base temperature of 1.4 K and is available from just $4,990 dollars. All entry level products are upgradable, so they can be tailored to suit the particular experiment and needs of the individual.

The cost of lost research

June 2009

ICEoxford® supports other manufactures equipment, as well as its own. We understand the cost of lost research time and the need for fast turnaround, competitively-priced repairs, refurbishments and upgrades. Here are just a few customer comments and recent examples of where we have been able to “help”:

“I really appreciate your efforts on the repair. You saved my research project!”

“ICE repaired our spectroscopy product for less than the original manufacturer quoted just to evaluate it”

Oxford instruments microstat HEOxford instruments microstat HE

“In conclusion, I am very much satisfied with Paul's service and if I face any trouble further, I will definitely contact ICE again”

"Our lab has a 17-year old dilution refrigeration system. In 2008, we decided to have professional repair and refurbishment including small leak check, mixture concentration check and pump refurbishments. Since it is too old, the manufacturer refused to take this job, however, ICE was willing to accept our job and came to the university for a week to perform the work.

I really like how Paul, the engineer, approached the job during a given time in a systematic way. On the first day, he planned a possible scenario of a week, writing down the tasks for each day. I respect his systematic approaches. During his visit, we had to modify the initial plan due to several unexpected occasions. However, overall he managed to repair the major issues of our Kelvinox, which is now in good condition. Moreover, he let me do most of operational work so that he passed along the appropriate handling skills. He also worked on Sat. in order to keep the pace.

In conclusion, I am very much satisfied with Paul's service and if I face any trouble further, I will definitely contact ICE again.

We think in the end that the project has been finished successfully and will consider ICEoxford® as a serious option for any further low temperature equipment work to be carried out in our laboratories”.

Why not take advantage of the summer term and get your equipment reworked, repaired or upgraded? For more information, or to discuss your particular requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us.
